As much as running a two-mile race named after the current HC president is a tradition, so is the Thanksgiving Talent Show the night before.  This is the second year that the Talent Show has been hosted in the new Hesston Mennonite Church sanctuary.  We are blessed to have such a wonderful space to perform and enjoy the talent of the Hesston College community.

This year provided some of the greatest variety for the past several years.  We had everything from dances to original music and even April Kabagambe rapping “Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?” by Dr. Seuss.  The talent and humor displayed by our students was top notch.

Hosting this year’s Talent Show was once again the Bills and Normas.  In order to view the entire Talent Show, you may contact Gary Oyer, Media Services, at garyo@hesston.edu to order your own copy of this year’s talent show.  If you would like to see some of the videos shown during the show, go to:

www.youtube.com and search dhp1020 for the following clips: HC Musical, Intro Video and Feast of Carols

This year’s Talent Show was a great success and we are thankful to all of those who participated and came to enjoy the event.

This weekend’s CAB activity was a Karaoke Coffee House on campus in the Lark’s Nest.  The Lincoln Perk, which is a local coffee shop, supplied coffee and different flavorings for the coffee while students got up their courage to get on stage.  Over fifty different students and staff got up the courage to sing about as many songs Saturday night.  The event lasted from about 10:20 p.m. until the last song ended at 2:10 a.m.  Over 115 students came out and enjoyed the evening, making it a very successful campus activity.

This will truly go down as a highlight activity for me.  It was fun to see the variety of students that got up on stage and sang with all their heart.  It’s amazing what a little coffee and some Christmas lights can do to change the atmosphere of the Nest from that of a snackshop to a coffee house lounge.  With the success of this event, we look forward to having another karaoke night in the spring.

What’s going on

November 12, 2008

Wow! What an amazing semester so far for CAB. We have done so many activities and the big events are still to come. As the newbie of the CAB directors this year, I came in excited to plan activities for students but not really knowing what to expect. We have spent a lot of time planning and working, but it has been so much fun.

I am not going to go into great detail about the events because there is a chance that:

A. You were there.

B. Know someone who was and can tell much better stories about it.

C If I just give you a glimpse of what has been going on you will want to come check out our campus and experience the fun first hand.

Some of my personal favorites so far have included the following:

  • Movie on the Court – The Princess Bride and popcorn outside on a beautiful fall evening. Amazing!
  • Bowling and Druber’s Run – Chocolate Peanut Butter Donuts are my fav.
  • Corn Maze – I love being outside on a farm in the fall. But remember, don’t wander off the path or they might ask you to leave…
  • Farm Olympics – What a fun day. Chicken races, pie eating contest, truck pull, BBQ, and the most perfect night for s’mores and hayrides.
  • Wellness Night – This past weekend we had a late night game night at the Wellness Center which included a pool tournament, ultimate Dutch Blitz, and Wii tennis. It was a good night to just hangout, play some games and even relax in the hot tub for a while.

I hope to see more of you at upcoming CAB events. And please feel free to send us any suggestions you have for an activity. We are always looking for more ideas.

Welcome to the Hesston College Campus Activities Blog.  This will be the first of many blogs letting you know about campus activities.  Emily Yoder and I, Brent Brockmueller (Dogg), are Co-Directors of Activities and we look forward to giving you information about what we do.  We will be providing posts with upcoming activities as well as posts with completed activities and some photos.  Also, if you have some suggestions feel free to let us know about those by commenting on the blog.

Campus Activities plans weekend activities for the student body.  Sometimes it’s as simple as a movie night at the local theatre or on other occasions we plan campus-wide games like capture-the-flag.  Make sure to check this every few weeks for updates on upcoming activities as well as pictures of those past.
